App Update, New Features, and Affiliates!

Wow, we are almost 2 months into 2013 already.

Time is flying!

Although we haven’t updated the blog since October of 2012, that doesn’t mean that we have just been sitting around.  Domain Spoon is continually being tested and tweaked.  Bugs are fixed continually, and new features are being planned.

Here’s just a little bit of what’s going on:

Copy to Clipboard Feature

Way back in November, a new feature was added.  It was a feature that many people were asking about since the beginning of Domain Spoon:  The ability to COPY a domain to the clipboard (so that it can be pasted easily into other tools or sites).

On the surface, it would seem like a simple thing.  But, it’s not.  Modern browser security standards, webpages are not allowed to directly access the operating system’s clipboard.  Since clipboards can store passwords and other personal information, it’s just a bad idea.

But, we figured out a way around it using Adobe Flash.  We were able to link the domain to a Flash script that could then (with the user’s permission) move some text into the clipboard.  Although this requires two clicks, instead of just one, I consider the feature a success.

Unfortunately, since the feature uses Flash, mobile Apple products will not be able to use this feature on their iPods, iPhones and iPads.

New Features Planned

A couple of weeks ago, I had a nice chat with Hayden Miyamoto.  We discussed a new feature that may have some value to new expired domain hunters.  The new feature will allow a user to bypass the work involved in creating a list to run through Domain Spoon.

This new feature would would require the user to input a single URL into the application… and from there, the app would find hundreds of possible domains to process.  It’s a pretty neat concept, and would allow Domain Spoon to become an “All-In-One” solution for expired domain enthusiasts.  I sincerely thank Hayden for allowing me the opportunity to explore implementing this feature into Domain Spoon.

Domain Spoon Affiliate Program

The last item I would like to talk about is the Domain Spoon Affiliate Program.

Although we are already have an affiliate program through our membership software (Digital Access Pass) it’s not the best.  Personally, I think it needs a lot of work.  Not to mention, it puts even more responsibility on MY plate, because I would be the one responsible for writing affiliate checks and such.

So, I have decided to take Domain Spoon to Clickbank.

Clickbank is one of the largest, oldest and most trusted affiliate management companies on the web.  They will deal with tracking, payment processing, refunds, and affiliate payments.

I have already applied to Clickbank, and I am waiting on approval.  Domain Spoon should be approved any day now.  Once that happens, the pre-launch special price of $75 will be over and new sign-ups will be done through Clickbank at $99 per month.

Let me know if you have any questions.  I wish you all the best in 2013.

Happy Hunting!

Well, it may or may not be worth your time, depending on your perspective. The commission will be $19.80 per sale, which some people consider somewhat small. However, the commission will be recurring.

Unfortunately, we could not make the commission larger because this is a SAAS application. So there are some hard expenses that increase with each customer, including API usage, server load, customer support, etc.
